Amusing silver vesta to wear as a pendant hallmarked for London, 1891. The obverse of the vesta depicts in enamel a hissing Calico cat with arched back and fur bristling. Maker’s mark to interior: CS and FS, for the firm of Saunders and Shepherd, founded by Cornelius Desmoreaux Saunders and James Francis Hollings Shepherd. The vesta measures 1 and 2/3 inches by 1 and 1/4 inches and is suspended from a 52 inch long silver guard chain from the same era. Fine quality and immaculate.
