Renaissance revival ring
During the 19th century jewellers sought to emulate the styles of former ages, many drawing inspiration from Renaissance jewellery designs. This elaborate high carat gold ring displays the characteristic petalled cusping and vivd enamelled decoration of the Renaissance period yet was it made in the third quarter of the 19th century. The rich decoration is conceived as a counter to the reflective surface of the central rock crystal. The ring is size K and 1/2 [US 5 and 3/8] and in very fine and wearable condition.
