Patiently submitt to dye

An unusual model of a skull mourning ring, circa 1680. The high carat hoop has a central white enamel skull motif and is enamelled fully round with black chevrons. The ring is inscribed to interior in black enamel italic script : Patiently submitt to dye, with initials AL. The archaic spelling is charmingly irregular. The ring is size P and 1/2 [US 7 and 3/4] and in all original and most wearable condition.
