Reverse intaglio crystal double-sided cat pendant

I have not seen such an Essex crystal rendition of cats like this before, it is circa 1900 and depicts two tabby cats on either side of the 14 carat round rock crystal ball pendant. The technique of reverse intaglio crystal carving was time consuming and required great skill, first carving out a domed rock crystal in reverse and then painting the miniature carvings in fine detail. The effect achieved is photo-realistic with their little faces peering out. The pendant measures 2/3 of an inch by 2/3 of an inch excluding top gold bale and is immaculate.
