Essex crystal cat pendant
A reverse intaglio crystal of a Persian Angora cat set to a high-carat gold pendant mount within a surround of rubies and diamonds, circa 1900. The technique of reverse intaglio crystal carving required great skill, first carving out a domed natural rock crystal in intaglio and then painting the carving in fine detail. The effect achieved is photo-realistic and the subject appears to be trapped under the crystal. The pendant measures one inch by 2/3 of an inch. Beautifully executed and immaculate.
