Qilin
A 19th century high carat gold ring depicting a Qilin. The Qilin (麒麟 ), a mythical beast, was a symbol of luck, good omens, protection, prosperity, success and longevity in Chinese and other Asian cultures. The ring comes from a private collection and was purchased in Java many years ago. It is size P [US 7 and 1/2] and weighs a substantial 16.35 grams. The ring would have been worn as a protective amuletic charm.
