Berlin iron cherub cross and chain

Berlin iron cherub cross and chain

The transformation of cast iron, a dark metal of little value, into a fashionable product was an important Prussian manufacturing success. Factories became adept at casting small, delicate parts which could be assembled to create fashionable jewellery which quickly gained an international profile. This Gothic Berlin cross has a central cherub motif on a polished steel backplate. It is attached to a Berlin iron long chain. The cross measures 2.5 inches by 2 inches and the chain is 30 inches long. In immaculate, rust free condition.
