A fine quality and weighty example of an ‘In Memory Of’ ring, dated 1838. The ring is fully hallmarked 18 carat gold with a maker’s mark. The exterior hoop is enamelled in Gothic script : In Memory Of. To interior the details of the deceased : Adam Dugdale Died 8 April 1838 aged 67. Adam Dugdale was a wealthy cotton broker with warehouses in Piccadilly and Manchester. He resided in a sumptuous villa called Dovecote House in West Derby, Lancashire. Following a long illness Adam died on April 8th 1838 and was buried in the vault under the church of St. John the Evangelist in Knotty Ash. The ring is size R and 1/2 [US 8 and 7/8] and the hoop is 1/3 of an inch wide. In immaculate condition with a most contemporary feel to its design.
