Ref  MB5  Memento Mori Stuart Crystal Skeleton Slide

Late 17th century Stuart crystal slide with a most wry and unusual memento mori subject, dated 1693. The high carat gold slide contains a compartment with a weave of hair surmounted by a painted enamel device of a skeleton holding a scythe and torch, alongside a skull on an hourglass. The slide also has gold wirework initials JG. To reverse it is inscribed May 2 93 [May 2nd 1693]. The slide measures 3/4 of an inch by 2/3 of an inch. Of a very neat size and immaculate.
