Ref  LJ1  Giardinetti

A rather delicious example of a gem-set giardinetti ring, circa 1760 - 1780. Flowers were a dominant theme in jewellery during the second half of the 18th century and intricate and colourful giardinetti rings (from the Italian, meaning ‘little garden’) were popular. They had tiny blossoms set with an assortment of precious stones, arranged in a basket, vase or pot. Here the Rococo gold shank supports a 'vase' set with a particularly vibrant sapphire, rubies and emeralds. It is currently size H and 1/2  [US 4] and can be sized to a maxium size L [US 5 and 1/2]. The head of the ring measures 2/3 of an inch by 1/2 an inch. In its original 18th century shagreen ring case, substantial and immaculate.
