Ref  AG6  George Holford

A rather amazing Victorian confection, a hair memorial bracelet, circa 1840. The high carat gold bracelet is set with a cameo of George Holford, facing sinister. George Holford (1767-1839), was a lawyer, an MP and an active philanthropist. He came from a Cheshire family who accumulated large estates which at the time of his death were worth over a million pounds. The cameo portrait is set within a surround of coral, with coral tassels and attached to the finest quality hairwork bracelet by Forrer, Masters of Hair Art, Regent St. London. It is in its original Forrer's fitted case and is accompanied by a note describing it as : Ch bracelet of Mrs Holford, Hair for Mrs Clare. The cameo in surround measures 1 and 3/4 inches by 1.5 inches and the hairwork section is one inch wide. The bracelet will fit a wrist of 6 to 6.5 inches. An extraordinary piece of extraordinary quality.
