Ref  RU4   Etoiles

High carat gold plaque mourning ring of stark simplicity, circa 1820. The shank supports a compartment set with a tight weave of brown hair, overlaid with five gold stars, under crystal. Stars in the iconography of mourning represented the spirit piercing the darkness as an expression of  triumph over oblivion and five stars represented the spirit rising to heaven. The ring is size N [US 6 and 1/2] and the head of the ring measures 1 and 1/4 inches by 3/4 of an inch. Fine quality and immaculate.
