Ref TY5 Bees
A wonderful Victorian nature fantasy, a swarm of bees, circa 1890. The Victorian loved naturalistic jewellery and its symbolism. Given the Victorian obsession with hard work, loyalty and industriousness, it isn’t surprising that bees were a favourite model for jewellers. A person who modelled their behaviour on the bees’ example would be considered to have excellent moral fibre and a good work ethic. These high carat gold and silver bee brooches are set with vibrant cabochon opals and have rose-cut diamond bodies and wings and cabochon sapphire eyes. The heads are articulated, the wings are articulated and can be worn folded in or fully open. Each bee measures 1 and 1/8 inches by 1 and 1/4 inches, They are finely modelled, in their original fitted case and immaculate.
