Ref  RD4   Portuguese Pink Topaz Ring

Delectable Portuguese ring circa 1800, set with Imperial pink topaz in foiled, cut-down and closed back settings. The second half of the 18th century saw an influx of coloured gemstones to Portugal from its Brazilian mines. The close setting of the gemstones favoured by Portuguese jewellers created the illusion of an unbroken mass of light. Here the gold shank supports a bezel pavé-set with vibrant, foiled fairy pink topaz in closed back silver settings. The gold ring reverse is engraved with foliate motifs. The ring is size M [US 6] and the head of the ring measures 1 and 2/3 inches by 1 and 1/8 inches. Perfectly colour matched topaz, substantial and very fine quality. Immaculate condition.
