Ref  MB1   Memento Mori Skull Ring

Memento mori skull ring, dated both 1727 and 1728, commemorating two deaths within a family on the one ring. The high carat gold hoop is inscribed in reserve on a black enamel ground with the details of the deceased : TD 4 Oct 1728 and LD 11 Aug 1727. The hoop supports a diamond-shaped compartment containing its original black and white skull device, set under table-cut rock crystal. The reverse of the ring is rayed. These mourning rings with bone-shaped hoops appeared mainly in the decade from 1720 to 1730. The ring is size J [US 4 and 5/8] and the hoop is 1/8 of an inch wide. This is a sturdy ring in completely original and most wearable condition.
