Ref  AM1  Eros

A fine quality high relief Bull's Mouth shell carving set to a 15 carat gold reeded brooch mount, circa 1870. Eros is depicted flexing his bow. The iconography of Eros as an archer dates as far back as the 4th century. The brooch measures 1 and 3/4 inches by 1 and 2/3 inches and the relief carving stands 3/4 of an inch proud from the mount. Finely detailed carving. One light stress in the ground.
