Ref  WD6  Pink Topaz and Enamel Ring

Sweet high carat gold ring, circa 1830, set with a pink topaz within a surround of rose-cut diamonds, between rose-cut diamond shoulders and a hoop enamelled with royal blue chevrons. In the mid-18th century a Parisien jeweller, Dumelle, discovered that golden topaz when heated turned a glorious shade of pink and 'pinked topaz' became extremely popular. The ring is size P and 1/2 [US 7 and 3/4] and the hoop tapers in width from 1/4 of an inch front centre to 1/8 of an inch at reverse. Immaculate condition.
