Ref  SL4  18th Century Girandole Earrings

Rather fabulous and dramatic girandole earrings, circa 1760. The girandole earring design of triple pendaloques suspended from bow-element tops originated in the court of Louis XIV in the late 17th century and continued to be fashionable until the 19th century. These girandole earrings are gilt metal, set with faceted rose paste in garnet surrounds. The gold ear wires are later fittings. They are 2.5 inches long and 2 inches wide. Surprisingly light on the ear for such full earrings.
