AF1  18th Century Portuguese Paste Ring

Rather luscious and substantial Portuguese ring circa 1780 -1800. The gold split shank supports a head set with a vibrant topaz paste within a surround of colourless, black-dot paste, all in foiled and closed back settings. The reverse of the ring is rayed. The ring is size J [US 4 and 5/8] and can be sized and the  head of the ring measures 3/4 of an inch by 2/3 of an inch. It is in completely original and immaculate condition, with the paste as vibrant as the day it was made. For similar, see Plate 105 in d'Orey's Five Centuries of Jewellery, National Museum of Ancient Art, Lisbon.
