Ref  HL2   Georgian Amethyst Urn Mourning Ring

An elegant 18th century urn mourning ring, dated 1769. An urn formed from finely macerated hair and sepia is inscribed with initials AD. The urn is within a glazed compartment and set in a surround of foiled and faceted amethysts in closed back settings. Amethyst was considered a suitable jewel to wear during the period of mourning. To reverse an inscription with details of the deceased : AD  Nat. 1689  Denat. 1769. [Born 1689, died 1769]. The ring is size J [US 4 and 5/8] and the head of the ring measures 2/3 of an inch by 2/3 of an inch. Very fine quality and in immaculate condition.
