Ref IG1 Dearest
Charming 15 carat gold acrostic bracelet, circa 1910, set with enamel flags which spell out a token of sentiment, dearest. Ships worldwide follow a flag signal code, the International Maritime Flag System, which has been used by sailors for over 150 years to communicate between ship and shore. In 1857 the International Code of Signals was officially published by the British Board of Trade. The purpose of the code was to establish a simple set of rules for maritime communication. The bracelet is 7 and 2/3 inches long and 1/3 of an inch wide. I can shorten it for a smaller wrist by removing some gold chain links from between the flags. A most unsual acrostic bracelet, in immaculate condition.
