Ref GBB8   Turquoise Owls

Gold earrings, circa 1860, in the form of owls, pave-set with Persian turquoise and pearls, with cabochon ruby eyes. In the 'language' of Victorian jewellery, the turquoise symbolise forget-me-not, the pearls, which come from a shell, symbolise Venus, goddess of love and the rubies symbolise passionate love. In the form of an owl, the whole represents the triumph of love over wisdom. The earrings are 1 inch in length including wire, 3/4 of an inch excluding wire and 1/3 of an inch long excluding wire and 1/3 of an inch wide. Immaculate.
