Essex crystal tabby cat

A reverse intaglio crystal of a tabby cat, set to an 18 carat gold textured brooch mount, under crystal and within a diamond surround, circa 1900. The technique of reverse intaglio crystal carving required great skill, first carving out a domed rock crystal in intaglio and then painting the carving in fine detail. The effect achieved is photo-realistic. The brooch measures 3/4 of an inch by 3/4 of an inch and has a maker’s mark to reverse. Fine quality intaglio carving, immaculate.
