Georgian pineapple cut coral beads
An unusually long and plump strand of Georgian pineapple cut coral beads, circa 1820. The principal Italian coral carving centres in the 19th century were in the Naples region. Such was the popularity of coral jewellery that at one point there were 82 coral carving establishments in Torre del Greco, providing employment for 4000 people. This strand of carved coral is 22 inches long and set to a gold and coral cameo clasp. A rare find.
