17th century table-cut diamond ring

17th century table-cut diamond ring

An Iberian ring of bow form, circa 1680. It is high carat gold and set with large table-cut diamonds in foiled and closed back settings. The arrangement of the diamonds, with the central stone flanked by two rows of three was intended to resemble a bow. During the late 17th century bows were at the height of fashion, adorning both gowns and jewels. The ring is size O [US 7] and the head of the ring measures 3/4 of an inch by 1/2 an inch. Very bright and clean diamonds, gorgeous thing.
