Georgian Imperial topaz poissardes
High carat gold poissarde earrings circa 1820, set with vibrant golden Imperial topaz in foiled and closed back settings. A poissarde (from the French: “fishwife”) was an elegant earring of elongated design, with an S-shaped fish-hook style cross over and threaded through the ear from back to front. These poissardes are 1 and 1/8 inches long and 1/4 of an inch wide. There are approximately 8.5 carats of topaz in total. The earrings sit well on the ear, are very fine quality and immaculate.
