Rococo ruby and diamond pendant
The Rococo style originated in Paris in the early 18th century and was characterised by lightness, elegance and an exuberant use of curving natural forms in ornamentation. Compared to the order, refinement and seriousness of the Classical style, Rococo was a style without rules, whimsically experimenting with movement and colour. This pretty gold and silver Rococo pendant, circa 1760 – 1770, is set with natural Burma rubies and steely hued rose-cut diamonds. It is 2 inches long and 1 and 1/3 inches wide at irs widest point. Substantial, all original and immaculate.
