Georgian rebus ring

A beautiful and unusual French love token ring, circa 1790 – 1800, from the Marquess of Anglesey collection of family jewels in the Anglesey Private Apartment at Plas Newydd. The high carat gold shank supports a compartment set with a black ground surmounted by the sentiment M moi in rose-cut diamonds, under crystal. The M is a rebus for ‘aime’ or ‘aimez’ so the sentiment expressed is ‘love me’. The ring is size O [US 7] and the head of the ring measures 1 and 1/8 inches by 3/4 of an inch.
