A nest of serpents
Such a quirky Georgian boxed set, circa 1820, the likes of which I have not seen before. The serpent motif was popular in Georgian jewellery as it symbolised eternity. The pieces are silver gilt [silver dipped in gold] and set with turquoise glass. The earrings with original reverse fittings are entwined with serpents. The drops are detachable. The necklace designed for ribbon fittings and the little clasp with ribbon fittings are both entwined with serpents. The necklace section measures 2 inches by 2 inches. Due to the adjustable ribbon element it will fit a neck of any size. The earrings are 1.5 inches long and 1/2 an inch wide across the pendant drop. Housed in its original fitted case and immaculate.
