Renaissance pendant
A Renaissance high carat gold pendant, circa 1600 – 1650. During the Renaissance lavish gold jewels featuring colourful enamels and colourful gems complemented the opulent red, green and gold brocaded fabrics in vogue at the time. The craftmanship and skill of the goldsmith and enameller were never subordinate to the gems employed. This articulated pendant of openwork scroll design is enamelled in black and set with foil-backed table-cut red pastes and a central ruby, suspending five pendants, with a central pearl drop It is 3 and 1/3 inches long and 1 and 2/3 inches wide and in fine, original condition.
