Portuguese 18th century Imperial topaz dahlia

Fine quality Portuguese stylised dahlia brooch, circa 1780. It is silver set with vibrant Imperial golden topaz in foiled, closed back settings. The stem of the flower has gold bead work typical of Portuguese jewels from this era. Dahlias were introduced to Europe in the mid-18th century and often featured in florally themed jewels. The brooch measures 2 and 3/4 inches by 1 and 1/8 inches and is substantial and immaculate.
