Ref  AJ3   18th Century Portuguese Chrysoberyl Ring

An imposing Portuguese chrysoberyl ring, circa 1780. From the 1770's such rings were designed to cover the finger from joint to knuckle as a display of opulence. The gold shank supports a large head set with foiled chrysoberyls in closed-back settings, the gems densely close-set to create a mass of light, within a gold beaded border. The ring is size M [US 6] and can be sized, and the head of the ring measures 1 and 3/4 inches by 1.5 inches. A most dramatic and beautiful ring, reflecting an age of elegance and splendour, in immaculate condition.
