Ref  SM4  Skeleton on a Gallows

A rather extraordinary intaglio ring, circa 1880. The high carat gold shank contains a bloodstone agate intaglio of a skeleton hanging from a gallows. The gem engraver has chosen a bloodstone where the red inclusions appear as spots of blood. The ring is size O and 1/2 [US 7 and 1/4] and can be sized and the intaglio measures 1/2 an inch by 1/3 of an inch. A quirky example of 'gallows' humour'.
