Ref  HM6   Scottish Agate Penannular Brooch

Fine quality and substantial Victorian Celtic penannular brooch. The silver brooch is set with striated grey agate and cairngorms [smoky quartz from the Scottish mountains]. It has a registered design kite mark to reverse, which determines its date of manufacture to be March 1873. Agate jewellery was popular throughout the entire Victorian era; from the Englishwoman's Domestic Magazine, 1867 : Scotch jewellery as well as Scotch costume is de riguer ..... a perefctly dazzling combination of silver combined with stones'. The brooch measures 2 and 1/4 inches by 2 inches and is immaculate.
