Ref EB2   18th Century Topaz Pendant

Sumptuous Portuguese pendant, circa 1760-1780.  The articulated silver pendant is set with foiled and faceted golden Imperial Topaz in closed back settings. The design elements are typical of Portuguese gems of the era - a Rococo style top suspending a large and plump tear-shaped pendant drop. The jeweller has used the gems to good effect, emphasising the contrast between the rich golden hue of the large central topaz and the subtle peach tint of the surrounding topaz, The pendant is two inches in length, the Rococo top measures 3/4 of an inch by one inch and the pendant drop measures 1 and 1/8 inches by 3/4 of an inch. Unusually large and vibrant topaz, the whole in immaculate condition. Featured in the latest series of Poldark on BBC1.
