Ref E3J  Georgian Foiled Amethyst Riviere

A  sumptuous Georgian riviere circa 1800, of foiled, deep violet amethysts in cut-down, closed back gold settings, with an integral amethyst clasp. The riviere was the quintessential Georgian day necklace, simply strung into a line of faceted gems. The effect created was a continuous glimmering stream enhancing the neck. This riviere is 16.5 inches in length, the central amethyst measures 2/3 of an inch by 1/2 an inch and the smallest to reverse measure 1/3 of an inch by 1/4 of an inch. A superior  Georgian gem-set riviere in immaculate condition. For similar, see front cover illustration, Georgian Jewellery.
